Our Team
Since our start in 2020, our group at the Physikalische Institut at KIT has been steadily growing. As of 2026, we include 1 PI, 3 Postdoctoral Researchers, 5 PhD students and 3 Master students.
Group Leader
TT-Prof. Dr. Philip Willke
Philip Willke is a tenure-track professor at KIT's Department of Physics since 2022, leading an Emmy Noether research group focused on quantum-coherent control of atomic and molecular spins on surfaces. He held postdoctoral positions at IBM Research Almaden (2017–2018) and the Center for Quantum Nanoscience in Seoul (2018–2020), and received his PhD from the University of Göttingen (2013–2017). His research achievements include the world's smallest magnetic resonance image (of a single atom) and single-atom magnetic sensors. Awards include the Gaede Prize, the Gerhard Ertl Young Investigator Award and the 2022 "Young Scientist of the Year" designation.
